Residents of the Mashabo Village in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) can now sleep easier at nights after capturing a Jaguar that struck terror into their hearts for over two months. According to reports coming out of Mashabo, the villagers were able to capture the lone jaguar sometime Sunday morning using a gun trap.
However, this was not before it had slaughtered some 14 dogs during its two month rampage in the lakeside village. Just last September a large Jaguar was shot and killed in the compound of a Hindu Temple at Grant Burn Bush/ Profit in the Lower Pomeroon River.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment is currently working with a US based Non-Governmental Organisation to look at conservation and reducing further threat to the animal.
Regulations provide for the prosecution of anyone who kills the animal.
